LETTERS TO THE INDIAN COMMUNITY

IN SUPPORT OF JUAN CASTELLANOS

Monday, August 29th, 2011

RE: SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

My name is Mercedes Amavisca, and I am a member of the Mesa Grande Band of Mission Indians.

I received an announcement from the Indian Human Resource Center Board and was angered and in disbelief by their disastrous decision to let go of Mr. Juan Castellanos.

I don't believe for one minute that this had to do with any type of re-organizing due to budget cuts.  Since when does any business cut off their right hand that has done so much for them?

In the Board's own words they state:  "Juan's unique ability to bring people together and his sincere belief in collaboration, the community would not be what it is today."

Why would you let go of a person who can only make your organization grow and has done so for almost 25 years?

This is how you thank him?

I have worked with Juan for the past 3 years and I and some of my family members have made several "personal" donations with food for dinners that the Center was hosting, toys, etc., knowing that Juan and his staff would distribute these items to people who really needed them.

Now, I don't feel I will be working with trustworthy people who are working hard for the Indian Community.  You’re only working hard for yourselves.

Our Indian Community, and it doesn't matter where they are from, will suffer from "YOUR" decision.

Mercedes Amavisca
