SYCUAN FIRE CHIEF HANK MURPHY (retired) was honored along with with three female board members. Mr. Murphy is currently serving the educational community as Vice President of Southwestern College Foundation.
SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE GALA & SILENT AUCTION EVENT
CHULA VISTA, CA, Oct. 6, 2012 — Southwestern College hosted its annual Gala on their Chula Vista campus grounds. Guests included a wide range of community and government leaders, philanthropists and corporate sponsors.
The weather was picture perfect!
The outdoor venue was held on the beautiful Southwestern College campus in one of the most picturesque academic settings in Southern California.

SILENT AUCTION FUND RAISER — Shirley Murphy (Lakota) has her auction number handy as she and her husband, Hank, posed for picture during the reception.
Mr. & Mrs. Murphy have been married 40 years and they've resided on the Sycuan Indian Reservation for the past 35 years raising their three children.
Chief Murphy is a tribal member of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation — a federally-recognized American Indian band in Southern California — and he has served on the Sycuan Tribal Government council for more than 30 years.
Congressman Bob Filner (California’s 51st Congressional District) took a photo with his fiancé, Bronwyn Ingram (left). Milinda Nish (Southwestern College Superintendent/President) and Norma Cazares (Southwestern College faculty member) are also pictured.
Mr. Filner (Democrat) is running for the Office of Mayor of the City of San Diego in the upcoming November 2012 presidential general election.

A traditional classic Mexican mariachi banda performed during the reception.
Southwestern College offers a popular Associate of Arts in Music program — Mariachi Specialization.

The Southwestern College Gala schedule included a five-minute professional multimedia video presentation projected onto two giant outdoor projection screens.
Francisco "Frank" Parra was the official Auctioneer (left). Mr. Parra is pictured auctioning off a donated "Training Day" package with the Chula Vista SWAT officers. The prize was promoted as "you get the chance to shoot weapons, learn different entry techniques and apply your newfound skills."
KGTV 10News reporter Joe Little (Master of Ceremonies) points to acknowledge a silent bid.
Mr. Little is an Emmy Award-winning TV reporter. KGTV 10News is the ABC affiliate in San Diego, California.

Superintendent/President Milinda Nish, Southwestern College, also spoke and introduced Honored Guest Viry Martino.
Viry Martino posed for photographers center stage holding her Certificate of Recognition "In honor of your Outstanding Academic Achievements and for Serving as an Exceptional MESA role Model."
Miss Martino then stepped up to the lectern and addressed the attendees after receiving her special certificate — she is pictured above at the lectern at the beginning of her speech basking in the glowing accolades and extended applause honoring her academic accomplishments.
The young student is a Southwestern College graduate and is currently working towards advanced engineering degrees.
Sycuan VIP tables — Sycuan had tribal members, employees and friends representing the east county Indian reservation.

Dancing to the live band started at 9 p.m. sharp and party goers closed down the gala event...
